Clinical Benefits

The micro-coaxial technique reduces surgically induced astigmatism. Micro-coaxial phacoemulsification better protects the incision against epithelial damage and thermal heat compared to bare-needle bimanual phaco. Micro-coaxial offers:

  • ASCRS 2006, Dr. Samuel Masket. Demonstrated that 2.2 mm incisions generated only .10D of surgically induced astigmatism compared with .32D for 3.0mm incisions. The difference is highly statistically significant.

  • ASCRS 2005, Dr. Abhay Vasavada: Micro-coaxial Phaco vs. Bi-manual MICS.

Sleeved phaco protects incisions against extensive epithelial damage and heat and induced coagulation necrosis of collagen by bare-needle phaco.

The incisions of the sleeved phaco tip maintain the regular arrangement of collagen fibers and show no contracture or buckling of the tissues around the incision.
