Clinical Benefits
The micro-coaxial technique reduces surgically induced astigmatism. Micro-coaxial phacoemulsification better protects the incision against epithelial damage and thermal heat compared to bare-needle bimanual phaco. Micro-coaxial offers:
- ASCRS 2006, Dr. Samuel Masket. Demonstrated that 2.2 mm incisions generated only .10D of surgically induced astigmatism compared with .32D for 3.0mm incisions. The difference is highly statistically significant.

Sleeved phaco protects incisions against extensive epithelial damage and heat and induced coagulation necrosis of collagen by bare-needle phaco.
The incisions of the sleeved phaco tip maintain the regular arrangement of collagen fibers and show no contracture or buckling of the tissues around the incision.
