Torsional vs. Traditional Fluidics

Dr. Kerry Solomon, Professor of Ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., presented his study comparing torsional fludics and traditional fluidics at the March 2006 ASCRS convention in San Francisco. His conclusion: torsional fluidics deliver improved followability and efficiency.

Dr. Solomon’s lab study using microcarrier beads and high speed computer tracking demonstrated:

  • Different fluidic patterns of bead flow in periphery and central tip
  • Improved efficiency
  • Material stays at tip better

The amount of time it took to clear the beads from the anterior chamber as well as observe the flow patterns of the beads through manual tracing of 10 random beads throughout the procedure.
